This November Life by dontyouwaitup.

Huge, long story that reads like an ep. Something Kripke would dream, where each action has a horrible consequence. Where the brothers are brothers, no matter what. Mostly fits the criteria, giving it a pass, and while it may seem like I only read good fiction and then recommend everything I read, that’s only because I go by Amalthia’s rec list, which cuts down on the amount of reading I have to do to get to the good stuff. American Myth by candle_beck.

Reading this story was like a slap in the face as to how far I have to go as a writer. Not to mention that this writer has multiple fandoms being written about and SPN seems to be a recent, low-key, walk in the park. La la la. Yet there I was, reading it, my brow furrowing, mouth dropping open, going Oh no! This is SO good! Now I’ll never be a teen model! (Not that I was ever going to be, but you see what I mean. Can’t compete, so why even try. I know, I know, we don’t compete with others, we compete with ourselves, yadda, yadda, yadda.) Read the rest of this entry »

You can read my review of the Supernatural episode “Fresh Blood” at pinkraygun.com. Thank you!
An excerpt:
“The next cool scene is outside a bar called Spider. Show gives me more moody lighting and grotty alleys than I ever dreamed of. Show gives me the boys outside at night. Rescuing damsels in distress, fighting bad guys. Dean gets Thrown. Could I ask for more? Oh, wait. Show reads my mind. The boys race after the bad guy and are beset upon by a hail of bullets that block out the streetlamps. Never mind that the flying glass from windows of shot out cars looks like a hail of wedding confetti coming down. Never mind that it’s Gordon and Jesus Guy shooting them, the boys are on the run. Oh, the desperation, the adrenaline, the pure, unmitigated glory of it all! Show loves me! Of this I am convinced.”

To the End by Esohpe.

Christ on a side car. That’s all I can tell you. I went directly to bed after reading this and should not have because I could not get it out of my head. It kept spinning around in there like a white sail distracting me from the darkness of sleep. I am SO exhausted right now because of it. Story fits the criteria all the way around, except for the realism bit, but I’m going to give this story the green light because of how well it was done. I just wish I’d written this story. To Live and Die in Las Vegas by stormheller.

Definately a guilty pleasure since it didn’t meet all my criteria in that it was AU and postulated the “last days of Dean’s year” (which hasn’t been written in canon yet) and then, the boys are lovers before the story starts, and I really rather prefer first time scenarios. Plus the POV noodles around a little bit. Needless to say, hours after I read this one I was still chuckling and mulling it over. Read the rest of this entry »

Valley So Low and coda Riding the Rim by kimonkey7.
Gen.
Follows all the criteria and hits it out of the ball park. Dean runs away from a
spider and falls down a ravine. He breaks nearly everything in his body, can’t
rescue himself. The details of his horrific accident are marvelously well done and
I enjoyed being in Dean’s head as he assesses the damage and sets himself to
wait for Sam to rescue him. Which he does in Riding the Rim. I was so peeved
at the end of Valley So Low because that’s all there was and the author had
determined that that’s all there was gonna be. Someone, however, talked her
out of it (or threatened her, I’m not sure which), for we get the sequel. Read the rest of this entry »

Ramius, who is working, natch, at the shop where Jack gets his supplies. The two decide to go fishing together, as they had once discussed, and find the opportunity to talk about what they did with that sub, and what it meant. In addition, they find the opportunity to discover a closeness that they had not heretofore anticipated. Read the rest of this entry »

One Night’s Compromise is now available on the Kirk/Spock Fanfiction Archive.
Here’s the premise: Spock has determined that the only way he can save his and Kirk’s friendship is to ask for a transfer. This he does, and of course, Kirk objects, and decides that he and Spock should go out to dinner to discuss what it’s going to take to keep Spock on the Enterprise. What it eventually takes is a surprise to them both. Word count: 12,405
That’s the story. But the story behind the story…yeah, there’s always another story.

The Flavor of Gold is one of the first fanfiction and slash stories I wrote. It is in the K/S fandom. You can view it here.
And, here is the description: While on shore leave, Kirk runs into Finnegan, who tells Kirk that he would not have been as successful without Spock. Kirk takes on a one-man mission in order to prove Finnegan wrong. (Kirk so has issues with this!) Meanwhile, Spock, wondering where his 3D chess partner has gone, goes after Kirk. He finds him, of course, and then the fun ensues! Word count 30,491.

You can read my review of the Supernatural episode “Red Sky at Morning” at pinkraygun.com. Thank you!
An excerpt:
“Okay, he doesn’t really waltz down the stairs like a girl, he prowls down the stairs like a panther. Like, yeah, like James Bond on his way to meet Pussy Galore. And he turns down her offer of angry sex, because he knows, as I know, that Winchester boys don’t sleep with roaches. Still, it’s pretty cool to see Dean realize how good he looks. The only thing that tops it is the realization, some long, stomach-tightening seconds later, that Sam, sweet Sammy, is also going to be in a tux. Dean looks dapper right enough, but Sam looks like a little boy in his father’s suit. Don’t get me wrong, he’s all cute and about ten feet tall, but his lovely Samhair has been plastered down with what looks like Brylcreem. His hair, apparently, did not want to go along to the ball, and this is how he attempts to manage it. (I love him anyway.)”
