An excerpt:

Next, Dean and Sam rolling up to a fraternity house is a satisfying combination of sight and sound. The Impala rumbles like an unsettled beast, Quiet Riot blasts from the speakers, and every frat boy head turns his head to look at the sleek and shiny sex on wheels thing that has poured into their midst. Frat boys, need I point out, who are working on a not-too-new BMW, a car that will never, not in a million years, come even close to approaching the Impala in mystery, magic, and machismo. The headlight that is out on the Impala only adds to the bad boy just-been-in-a-fight air to the car. Throughout this ep, the Impala makes many manly entrances and exits, and I WANT an Impala like this so bad, I can’t even tell you.”

An excerpt:

So anyway, Sam and Dean march into the local mortuary to check out the dead body. They’re posing as medical students and you can see they’re not quite comfortable with their lie yet. They manage to muddle through, but when the guy at the desk still refuses them entry, Sam pulls out a wad of cash. Dean protests to Sam that hey, he earned that money! Sam says, “You WON it in a poker game.” Dean goes, “Yeah?” Like, that’s supposed to matter? To Dean, winning and earning are the same thing. Sam, of course, knows the difference between the two. What’s interesting to me here is the fact that if Dean won the money, what’s it doing in Sam’s wallet? Did Dean instantly hand over his winnings to Sam, or was there a tussle about it? Does that make Sam the banker? Does Dean get an allowance? Personally, I don’t think he’d stand for that, so I kind of imagine that their money is communal, and they both pull out of a common kitty, and Sam just happens to have the nicer wallet. What’s Dean’s is Sam’s and vice versa. Which is rather nice, you know?”

Excerpt:

“It’s interesting to think that of the Winchester trio, Sam is considered the black sheep. Winchester men kill what they think needs killing, they destroy what needs to be destroyed, they scam credit card companies out of thousands of dollars, forge documents, live off the grid hand to mouth, and, worst of all, they don’t pay taxes! (At least I don’t think they do.) Yet Sam, who wants to go to college and live the American dream, is essentially the odd man out, or as Dean once put it, is like “The blonde chick on the Munsters.” Poor Sam. Yet at the same time, I get the feeling that Dean thinks that his status as good son is precarious at best and that one slip will make The Dad give him the old heave ho. Which son would you rather be?”

This ep seems to be about conversations, so here’s two lovely pics of the boys talking. With each other. (Click on the links to display beautiful, full-size pics. Click on thumbnails for smaller but still beautiful pics.)

Jeer of the Week

Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles, Kripke, Supernatural Comments Off on Jeer of the Week

Someone posted to a blog the following comment, which made it to TV guide’s jeer of the week:

Posted by “mls071974″…Jeers to the CW for not showing more support for Supernatural. How do you expect Supernatural to get an audience if there aren’t enough promotions for this wonderfully scary and imaginative show? I can watch almost every show on the CW and see a brief promo for Supernatural only once — and that’s at the end of Smallville. This post was followed by a bunch of other posts, both agreeing and disagreeing. What I loved was the flood of comments that the CW was trying to fix a show that wasn’t broken, and also that the CW was ignoring great show in favor of other, less worthy shows. When you’re watching Supernatural, you see tons of ads for other shows on the CW, just tons, and yet, watching anything else on the CW, you see no ads.

What’s to be done? Fan promotion, I reckon.

An excerpt:

Then Sam and Dean track the PGs to their lair, and pick the lock to enter the dwelling uninvited, no doubt staining the carpet with the heels of their muddy boots and sneakers. (They’ve brought stakes made of Evergreen, and there’s a fantastic scene where Dean sharpens these between his marvelous thighs. Don’t get me started.) As they wander through the house, looking for something e-vile, I got the feeling that they really didn’t have a clue what all the decorations were about. Yes, in theory, but why someone would have seven (yes, seven) snow globes, piles of cookies, miles of garland, and a plethora of Santa statues, etc., only to have to take them down in a few weeks is beyond them. I guess that’s my problem, too, why put ‘em up if you only have to take them down? So I’m projecting onto the boys, even though, by the looks on their faces, they would be agreeing with me: what IS all this stuff? You know, cause for the boys, stuff is stuff, and either it’ll be useful in a fight, you can use it to wash blood out of your clothes, or you can eat it. Otherwise, it’s just stuff.”

An excerpt:

Oh. My. Holy. Hell. It’s The DAD. The boys are shocked ghost white to find The Dad sneaking up on them. (The last time they were together, ages ago, they agreed that The Dad would be safer apart from his boys.) The Dad slips into the backseat of the Impala like he owns the place and takes the letter from Dean. Instantly the scene flips from two brothers floundering around to three men on a mission, one of whom is in charge of everything and everyone. The Dad doesn’t read the letter aloud, he merely scans it, mutters to himself (with those pillowy lips of his), and then starts barking out orders. There’s a vampire nest, they are going after it. There’s a gun, The Dad wants it. Follow me, The Dad says, and off they go.”

An excerpt:

Back in Bod’s office, the boys discuss that the stuff on the handle was sulphur (a very nasty mineral from Hell), and determine that the whole thing smacks of demons. They are leery because it’s their first time with demons and it’s not as straightforward as a salt-n-burn. They look durn cute, though, as they dither, ties undone, shirt collars unbuttoned, looking hot (in the literal sense), and just about ready to take those suits off. If they could hear me, I would tell them I could help them with that. (I’ve got a thing for English schoolboys, see, and this scene just about does me in. Sam looks like the good schoolboy, and Dean, you know, he’s the naughty one.)”

An excerpt:

Sam is lovely in this scene, really. I think I owe the wardrobe and makeup guy a kiss. Sam is in tattered blue jeans and that rough-edged sweater over a t-shirt, looking young and alone. He’s chewing on his nails, his hair doesn’t look like he’s washed it in days. His face looks like it’s hot and his eyes are glossy like he’s been crying not long since and might give in to it again, but he won’t, cause he’s gotta help Dean. Oh, Sam. Poor Sam. Never have I seen this boy so downhearted. It’s not a case that can be solved, or an object that can be destroyed to save the day. No, his brother is dying, and Sam is desperate.”

The next cool scene is outside a bar called Spider. Show gives me more moody lighting and grotty alleys than I ever dreamed of. Show gives me the boys outside at night. Rescuing damsels in distress, fighting bad guys. Dean gets Thrown. Could I ask for more? Oh, wait. Show reads my mind. The boys race after the bad guy and are beset upon by a hail of bullets that block out the streetlamps. Never mind that the flying glass from windows of shot out cars looks like a hail of wedding confetti coming down. Never mind that it’s Gordon and Jesus Guy shooting them, the boys are on the run. Oh, the desperation, the adrenaline, the pure, unmitigated glory of it all! Show loves me! Of this I am convinced.”

An excerpt:

Okay, he doesn’t really waltz down the stairs like a girl, he prowls down the stairs like a panther. Like, yeah, like James Bond on his way to meet Pussy Galore. And he turns down her offer of angry sex, because he knows, as I know, that Winchester boys don’t sleep with roaches. Still, it’s pretty cool to see Dean realize how good he looks. The only thing that tops it is the realization, some long, stomach-tightening seconds later, that Sam, sweet Sammy, is also going to be in a tux. Dean looks dapper right enough, but Sam looks like a little boy in his father’s suit. Don’t get me wrong, he’s all cute and about ten feet tall, but his lovely Samhair has been plastered down with what looks like Brylcreem. His hair, apparently, did not want to go along to the ball, and this is how he attempts to manage it. (I love him anyway.)”
